THE FABRIC’S STORY SO FAR:

This cotton has firstly been scoured by PIGMENT, removing any oils or debris from the manufacturing process. This involves a high temperature wash using a PH-neutral soap, and a rinse to follow.
It was then added to an English Oak Gall mordant bath, soaking for 8 hours to add essential tannins to the fibre, allowing it to absorb the dye. A second mordant bath using Aluminium Sulphate and Soda Ash was then created, which increases colourfastness and vibrancy to the fibre, once added. This is then followed by an intense rinse.

The dyeing process takes the dried dye plant through a steeping process, then is extracted and the fibre is then added. The colour deepens the longer you leave the fibre in.

SPECIFICATION AND AFTERCARE:

This cotton measures 95 x 158cm and weighs 240g, approximately. Some colour variation is expected with natural dyeing techniques. Shrinkage has occurred during the process, hence the measurements.

Wash on the “hand wash” (20 degrees) setting on your machine if making into garments, etc. Dry out of direct sunlight.

Our farming systems mean that we improve the soil we work on, and help people with additional needs to reach employment through training and work support on-site.
