This textured, light-weight Linen has been lovingly scoured, mordanted and dyed using Cosmos Gazebo Red.
Cosmos Bipinnatus, Gazebo Red, is an annual cut-flower, commonly found in many gardens. Its vibrant pink blooms are often the first to flower in the field, is incredibly productive and creates a tall ‘hedge’ - a delight to pick (particularly for the lack of back-bending!).
The sage green hues that it creates is a gentle, pure addition to the natural dye colour pallet.

THE FABRIC’S STORY SO FAR:
This linen is not Organic but it is made using GOTS certified thread by a women’s weaving collective in Kerala, India.
This linen has firstly been scoured by PIGMENT, removing any oils or debris from the manufacturing process. This involves a high temperature wash using a PH-neutral soap, and a rinse to follow.
It was then added to an English Oak Gall mordant bath, soaking for 8 hours to add essential tannins to the fibre, allowing it to absorb the dye. A second mordant bath using Aluminium Sulphate and Soda Ash was then created, which increases colourfastness and vibrancy to the fibre, once added. This is then followed by an intense rinse.
The dyeing process takes the dried dye plant through a steeping process, then is extracted and the fibre is then added. The colour deepens the longer you leave the fibre in.
SPECIFICATION AND AFTERCARE:
This 95 x 120cm of linen weighs approximately 135g. Some colour variation is expected with natural dyeing techniques. Shrinkage has occurred during the process, hence the measurements.
Wash on the “hand wash” (20 degrees) setting on your machine if making into garments, etc. Dry out of direct sunlight.

These fabrics are hand packed by us and our trainees in cardboard boxes, compostable paper packaging and sealed with compostable labels.
